The comprehensive examination process is central to our goal of providing a comfortable visit and quality dentistry to every patient. We believe that each patient deserves a thorough and complete examination of not only the mouth but also the head, neck, and facial muscles. We follow the Dawson principles of occlusion (bite) and the total masticatory (chewing) system. These dental principles benefit our patients in obtaining the truth about the entire status of their oral health. The Dawson principles are unbiased and not driven by insurance, past dentistry, or your ability to pay.

Every new patient to our Miami dental office is greeted by our staff and given a series of questionnaires, which are needed for the diagnostic process. Once that is accomplished, you'll be escorted to a treatment room where Dr. Hernandez will perform your comprehensive exam. He will carefully inspect each tooth as well as your soft tissues (gums). If you suffer from chronic headaches, neck and back pain, irritability, or unusual tiredness, Dr. Hernandez will search for the source of your discomfort during your initial examination. Oftentimes, such symptoms are the result of TMJ disorder or sleep apnea, conditions that Dr. Hernandez can easily treat with a custom appliance.

To determine the condition of your occlusion (bite), we take double impressions of the oral cavity (mouth). Records of jaw positions and anatomic landmarks will allow us to transfer these models to our diagnostic tools. You will have an opportunity to see for yourself the relationships between your oral health and your overall wellbeing. We can also use digital imaging technology to enhance your understanding of the condition.

After Dr. Hernandez has completed a thorough diagnosis, he will recommend treatment options that suit your unique case. We may develop a step-by-step approach that will set you on the path to total oral health and wellness.
